When I first heard about the game and saw bits of the components I was fairly interested in the game (being a fan of Mouseguard). However, when I caught wind of the amount of read-aloud text necessary to construct the narrative behind the game, my cynical side took over and I decided to pass (I'm very suspicious of wanna-be writers pushing their "craft" in board and computer games - most of which is barely better than fan fiction.).At any rate, something pushed me to give it a shot (a co-op dungeon crawler with more meat on it than Ravenloft? Okay...) and I'm glad that I gave in.
Streamlined but not overly simplistic rules, wonderfully evocative art (is this art by the same guy who illustrated the Summoner Wars characters? If so, man, you've really evolved - this stuff is terrific!), and an intriguing narrative (if a little wordy) make for a really swell game.
Of the ridiculous number of thematic board games that I own, this is only the fourth one that I've gone through the trouble of painting the figures. It simply deserves fully rendered critters.
