Trying to be brief:
Purchased game with intent to play through storyline with hard-to-assemble family.
In 6 months, have played twice. Skills/items logged on computer between sessions.
My first, lesser gripe: We went into this expecting to take four characters from point A to point Z. As it happens, Chapter 2 expects someone to retire such that the Archer can be a plot character. This was a neat scenario mechanic, but really jarring to our expectations.
Second, serious gripe: Lucky monster rolls resulted in metric tons of cheese. Filch had been retired for the archer, so our cheese removal mechanic was gone. We got overwhelmed & the game was a loss. There is no written clause for what to do with a campaign when the situation goes pear-shaped. (It was a fine, exciting session, mind you, but I have no clear way to continue, and that gets to me.)
Solutions that came to mind:
- Start from scratch. Expect to get midway by the year 2016 with more restarts.
- "Reload saved game." Start scenario 2 over as if it never happened with our logged equipment. Wail/gnash teeth for the player who has to stall out on their character for plot device damsel in distress.
- Take suggestions from you fine people.
- Throw game against wall, propose Descent.

I really like the idea of this game but without a failsafe in which we get to continue... Well, it's 6 months of waiting to end up running into a brick wall. Barring life becoming more cooperative to our play.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
