Hey y'all,

In the past, I brushed aside Descent 2nd ed since many people described it as a "Race to the objective." I've always appreciated Mice and Mystics because of its gripping theme, how everything in the universe is meticulously placed and planned to be there. The weapons, the backstories; everything fits. It's the theme that really draws me into Mice and Mystics, even though the game can be kind of slow.

This is why I appreciate a lot of the non-combat encounters in Mice and Mystics, and I'm able to house-rule it. It's not because I think the game mechanics are so elegantly designed, and that's what draws me in; it's the fact that I'm drawn into the universe, and I want to make sure the game stands up around it.

However, I've actually noticed that Mice and Mystics is very much Race to the Objective as well. Although you do have some minor branching paths, and side quests (like Miz Maggie), they really don't happen that often.
But my favorite thing in Mice and Mystics is how each chapter has chapter specific things for you to do, and are very thematic (like crafting certain items), or changing the game completely (random tile draw).

So with all this being said, do you think I would like/should try Descent 2nd ed? Have you played Descent 2nd ed? How'd you like it?

Thanks!
