Hello M&M super fans, casual players, and future players checking out the forum to see what the game is all about.I just thought I’d type up a little note, mostly to the future players. If you come onto the forum, you will probably notice there are a few super fans of the game. These fans talk a lot about variants to the game. Some have changed a couple rules here and there to alleviate some issues (as they see it) with the game. Others have changed just about all of the rules with movement, combat, what happens if you miss, searching, minion AI, etc. And some have even split up chapters and reduced rulesets to help introduce the first chapter in a smaller version.
This post is to let you know that none of that is necessary. The game plays just fine as designed. I’m a huge fan of the game as well, but I like it the way that it is. I think a lot of the variant rules are very creative and look like a fun way to play. It just came to mind that a new person might come to the forum and all they see people “fixing” the game, then they might think the game is broken. It is definitely not broken. It just so happens that the BGG’ers that are most passionate about the game and post the most, like to change how it is played a little bit. M&M is a fantastic game with a great story. Everyone who plays will have their own opinions. In my opinion… the game is pretty good as designed and it doesn’t need a lot of changes. Others clearly have different opinions, which you can read about.
To the super fan variant makers… Thanks for taking the time to share all the cool new ideas of how to play the game. I think this post was pretty self-explanatory, but I’ll go ahead and mention here too… Obviously, no offense intended. It’s all a matter of opinion on the best way to play, and leaving things “as-is” is not exactly posted a lot. Because, why would someone make a long post about how they like playing the way the game is??? Lol But, now I have. Maybe I’ve restored balance to the force.
…but you know who else was supposedly going to bring balance to the force, eh?
