I went through the process of ordering the Story Moments and I was expecting to get a code or sign in or something. I went all the way through and paid. (I have my paypal receipt) Unfortunetly I did this on my iphone and when I realized I had to DL on my pc, There is no where to go to. Now I have paid but don't know how to get the content.

I'm hoping someone else has had this issue and can point me in the right direction. If your answer is emailing Plaid Hat and/or Colby, I've already tried that with no success.

Jerry,

Thanks for your continued involvement in the rules discussions. It's extremely helpful (and reassuring).

Your game is one my favorites - in a year full of standout games!

I'm curious if anyone has tried out M&M as a competitive/adversarial game. Our family has been playing thus far as a purely cooperative game, as intended, but my youngest son is really much more eager to play the "bad guys" than the heroes.

Thinking it over in a very cursory way, I can't come up with a reason why this wouldn't work. The enemies all have movement values and attack ratings, and we could just ditch the auto-movement rules and allow normal movement in whatever fashion he desires (while still observing individual story restrictions--e.g., the roaches on the table in the kitchen in Ch.1). We've only played the first chapter, though, so I could imagine that there might be some hitches with whatever might come next in later chapters. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Also, any opinions on whether this would make the game much more difficult?

I've been very surprised, but my son just isn't very invested in the game as-is. He needs some direct conflict with other players to keep him involved, so this might help "save" the game for us. Playing as the baddies sounds dull to me, but it's enticing to him.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Kudos to them - I emailed about a couple of broken figures, on a sunday, and had a reply same day (take a day off!) and within 10 days I've received my replacements here in the UK, at no charge.

Great stuff, a credit to the company.

Ask a simple question:

Have you guys ever thought of putting a 3 on one side of the cheese tokens similar to what Summoner Wars does for damage tokens? This should instantly fix the lack of cheese tokens issue and be of minimal effort to get implemented.

And get far more of an answer than you were expecting:

You know we did consider this but early on the mice were allowed to keep cheese between chapters. having the 3 on the token made it confusing. Also, none of our testers ever ran out of cheese. I still have never run out during play. Not a single time.

But that's not all. I plan on allowing mice to keep cheese between chapters in the future forest expansion. The mice are going to be out in the wilds with other forest creatures. There will be an economy of sorts, and settlements. Mice can do a variety of things in the main settlement like: They can hire a tracker before going on a mission, they can gamble, visit the local pub, and also rest up at the inn. They can also get robbed, or end up in a fight.

After you finish a chapter, you might not be at a settlement. You'll want to save your cheese. Most of us place our character in a plastic Baggie after a chapter, then we place that characters search cards, ability cards, cheese tokens, initiative card, and anything else that character has, such as a pet like Meeps. It's just easier if that is done with the current cheese tokens.

Hope I explained things adequately. I do plan on asking for more cheese markers to be added in the forest expansion.

Jer

What I like most about this bit of news is that expansions simply won't be just more adventures, but the world that the mice live in is actually being more fleshed out into a living breathing universe.

Thread: Mice and Mystics:: General:: Alternative color scheme for painting minis

by rpickman

Of course, the Mouse Hero Cards show you what colors you are *supposed* to use for the various mice. And I see that most painted minis in the pics section follow that color scheme. Many of the painted minis look amazing, but...

I still find myself wishing there were a little bit more variety in the color. Collin has a red cloak; Lily has a green cloak; Tilda has a purple-trimmed robe; and Maginos has a red-trimmed robe. Filch and Nez have no colors besides sundry browns and grays.

Considering that most of the enemies aren't very colorful either (except maybe the Caterpillar), this makes for a fairly dull palette of minis. Which is a real shame, considering the variety of colors in the backgrounds. Furthermore, your brother who plays blue and your girlfriend who plays yellow won't be very happy, since there are no minis with those colors.

Here's what I'm thinking:

-Collin can have a red cloak, as before. Red is a decent color for a leader.
-Lily can have a green cloak, as before. Or perhaps she has green clothes under her cloak. Ever since Robin Hood, green has been a suitable color for an archer.
-Tilda can stay purple. However, white mouse with a white robe might be a little too much white. I would consider either making the robe purple (perhaps with white trim) or keeping the robe the color it is, and making Tilda's fur a light, soft gray.
-Maginos could have a blue robe. Ever since Merlin, blue has been an excellent color for wizards. It would make a nice contrast with the ladybug familiar, too. Blue is the favorite color of many players.
-Nez could have a yellow smock. Lots of players play yellow.
-Filch could have an orange cloak. Or perhaps a gray cloak. Or maybe Filch could stay brown... if he was the only brown-colored character left.

I know this isn't strictly "canon," but I feel like it might spice the color scheme up a bit. Thoughts?

Thread: Mice and Mystics:: General:: Is this a good game for fans of Mouse Guard (David Peterson)?

So I'm thinking of getting this game as a gift for a friend who is a huge fan of the David Peterson series (he owns the entire series so far). He is generally a fan of thinky Euro-style games but may be willing to try something more thematic. Definitely would favour strategy over randomness though.

My question is: Does the whole mouse theme come through? Would a fan of Mouse Guard enjoy this theme (i.e., are there more similarities than just the fact that mice are the main characters, and they use swords and stuff?) Or is this like saying fans of xkcd would enjoy Order Of The Stick Adventure Game (different story but similar "theme").

Thanks all!
Tim

Hi there,

What can you tell me about the difficulty of this game? It seems as if - even if there's some luck needed with the dice-rolling - the game is rather easy to win. (This is only my assessment after having watched the 'WatchItPlayed' videos on youtube of scenario 1)

I don't expect it to be as hard as, let's say, "Ghost Stories", however is there some.. well.. tricky moments in this game? Maybe in some of the other scenarios?

Thank you very much

Thought I would post a picture of the first set of minis I've painted for Mice and Mystics. This is also the first set I've ever painted period.

Used Jerry's guide and started with the Roaches. This was a test of the primer (dark grey Rust-Oleum -- bought it from Walmart) and also a test of my skill (or lack thereof). The primer seems to work fine even though it is intended for metal.

Luckily, I have an artist friend who paints "little men" -- aka minis -- with his brothers and who was gracious enough to lend a hand as I learned what was going on.

He started with one as a proto-type, and then I followed through in assembly line with the others. Then toward the end, as the evening came to a close and I needed to head home, we started piecing out a couple of the tasks (he did the antennas while I worked on legs).

They look pretty good at size, but please don't blow up the image to full size. modest The flaws all start jumping out when you see them that close-up.

They haven't yet received a sealer coat since we just painted them last night and I had forgotten to pick up a sealant.

Hey everyone,

Just got the game delivered today haven't opened it yet (working right now).

I always play every game I get solo first even if it's a head to head style game just to make it easier to explain rules/how it's played to friends.

I'm excited that this game CAN actually be played solo. Just curious if anyone's done it and how they've found it?

Thread: Mice and Mystics:: General:: M&M is turning my wife into a gamer...

Let me begin at the beginning:

A few years back, on the advise of a friend, we bought Carcasonne. Everyone in the family seems to enjoy it, but since gaming is something we never went out of our way to make time for, it doesn't get played a whole lot.

This past year, I picked up Settlers of Catan and once again the Wife and kids enjoy it, but we only play it if we all happen to be sitting around with nothing to do for several hours. Time is not "made" to play the game.

Late last year, I dove in deep to gaming with Mage Knight (a game that I love - and can play solo!). After this Mice and Mystics popped up on Amazon suggestions. Figuring it might be a way to hook the kids into gaming - and thus give me a partner or four someday - I picked it up.

Three of the four kids like Mice and Mystics but trying to get everyone around the table to play has been rough. We played Chapter 1 twice since last fall, and that was it.

Three weekends ago I talked my non-gaming wife into a "pity play" of M&M. She only agreed because she felt sorry for me.

Two weekends ago I suggested we play the second chapter and she agreed.

Last weekend we were busy and this weekend is shaping up the same. I honestly hadn't even thought about playing a game of any kind until she looked at me on the way home in the van yesterday and said "We have GOT to find a few hours to play Chapter 3 of Mice and Mystics this weekend."

I think she's coming around!!!!

Just wanted to share my customer service experience for a problem I had with Mice and Mystics. I received the game and Maginos' arm was missing. Nowhere to be found in the bag, box, etc. Also one die had oversplash so bad that the number on the die was illegible.

I emailed Plaid Hat customer service and explained the problem. Within one hour I received an acknowledgement email apologizing for the inconvenience and later that night at 11:42 PM I received another email indicating that the replacements have been shipped. Within 2 days, I received the replacement pieces.

Great game backed by outstanding customer service. Doesn't get much better than that!

I thought this game supported 1 to 4 players. However my gaming group pretty much consists of three players. After flipping through the scenarios I noticed that the majority of them are for four mice.

So how would we go about playing that with three players? Is there a specific way to do it with three players or are we just going to have someone play with 2 mice?

Also I notice I wanted scenarios is just for two mice how are we going to do that with three players someone is going to be left out?

Thanks for your help.

In the thread Three Questions for Jerry the designer was asked about upcoming expansions. I personally thought the answer important enough to have its own thread so I copied the answer here... Hope no one minds.

Some things subject to change but here goes:

Heart of Glorm (small expansion) This is a 6 chapter expansion. It will come with some cards, a story book, some tokens and 2 new figures: Nere' the nature mystic and Glorm, the angry glow worm. The setting is in the abandoned castle.

The Downwood Tales (large expansion) This will have like 10-12 chapters, a large amount of cards 25-30 new miniatures, tokens etc. There are three new heroes planned and many new minions and bosses. This will all be backward compatible. The entire expansion is set in an enchanted forest setting, so the box will come with new tiles as well.

Lost Chapters: There are 2 that I have worked on:

The Haunting: Somebody is moving into the castle. The mice need to scare them away.

Crown of the Mouse King: Collin's search for his father

Again, this could change, but these are the things I have going for M&M.
